I'm Late

I’m late, I’m late…

As the White Rabbit said in Alice in Wonderland, “I’m late! I’m late! For a very important date!” I should have mailed out this newsletter on Monday, but it’s getting to you today. Four days late.

Ever since I returned from Tucson, I’ve struggled to get caught up. Two days after returning to Spokane, my father passed away. He had battled with dementia and Parkinson’s for several years, so we knew that this would eventually happen. However, it was still a very sad moment when it arrived. I caught a flight to Ohio as soon as possible and visited with family for several days.

When I got back to Spokane, I couldn’t find my rhythm. In fact, I’m still struggling to recover my footing. I pride myself on living with certain habits and those good behaviors got knocked about after being gone for a couple of weeks. I’m certain my dad’s passing had something to do with my headspace, so I’m trying to give myself some grace.

But I made things worse for myself. I’ve had my laptop for quite some time. It started making horrible sounds a couple of years ago. Laptops should be silent like ninjas, not wheezing like 90-year-old smokers running up a flight of stairs.

So, getting a new computer made sense. Sort of. Setting one up compounds a person’s inefficiency problem. This purchase required me to move over all my files and the wonderful programs I use regularly.

All things considered; I know this is only a temporary deviation from my life. I’ll recover my stride and habits soon. It just feels out of character. I work very hard to make my life drama free. Ask my daughters—I preach that to them.

What about you? Has life knocked you off your game before? How long did it take you to recover?
