True story.
Recently at a coffee shop with three early twenty baristas behind the counter, each wearing a vintage rock & roll t-shirt—the Rolling Stones, Nirvana, and Led Zeppelin.
A mid-fifties customer asked the young woman in the famous lips t-shirt, “Do you like the Rolling Stones?”
She replied, “I’ve heard of the Rolling Stones.”
Not the question he asked, I think.
The young woman in the Nirvana shirt perks up and proudly said, “I love the music from all these bands.” She then pointed to the woman in the Led Zeppelin shirt. “My favorite from them is ‘Hysteria’ and ‘Photograph.’”
The mid-fifties customer then calmly said, “So, you like Zeppelin, huh?”
It takes the young woman a moment to realize her mistake. “Wait. I don’t think those songs are from that band.”
“Def Leppard,” I offer.
“That’s right,” she says with a smile. “I love them.”
I wanted to laugh and cry at the same time.
